Because my desire is to help nurse practitioners increase their confidence with managing their patients with diabetes, I try to answer as many questions as I possibly can. I created the TUESDAY TIP series to answer questions that need a straight forward answer.

In today's video, I discuss HYPOGLYCEMIA in diabetes and what NURSE PRACTITIONERS need to keep in mind when managing and treating our patients. This would include how to treat hypoglycemia and proper patient education. This is a topic that I believe can be glossed over because it is so common in diabetes mellitus but that is the very reason we should cover hypoglycemia in diabetes periodically...because it is common!
In today's video, I give a brief overview of the common complications of DIABETES...common signs and symptoms of diabetes. For the month of March, I will be detailing each complication individually to better educate you over each condition.

Routinely, we should get into a habit of looking at your practice and patients as a whole and access where you are and where you want to go to improve the health quality of your patients. Setting goals as nurse practitioners is a crucial part of the care we provide. Getting in the habit of goal setting in 2020 will set your patients up for success!! In today's video, I discuss goal setting for the nurse practitioner and a common way to do that through SMART Goals. To assist you in goal setting for the nurse practitioner, download your FREE SMART Goal Workbook below to help you organize your goal planning for the year!
The Patient Corner (Problem Solving) // On today's PATIENT CORNER, we are discussing PROBLEM SOLVING! This is vital for the patient because not only does this give you autonomy with your care, it also allows you to take an active role in your care!
The African American Diabetic and Heart Patient// I had the opportunity to sit down & chat with NP Colleague, Devyn Nixon, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C. She works in cardiology & since it’s Black History Month as well as American Heart Month, we thought it would be great to discuss the African American diabetic & heart patient. The diabetic patient is 2-3x more at risk for stroke, MI, & sudden death compared to those without diabetes. The African American diabetic has an even higher incidence of macrovascular disease than their Caucasian counterparts. With that being stated, we must not neglect the education, early detection & intervention that can greatly benefit our patients.
The Patient Corner (REDUCING RISKS)) // On today's PATIENT CORNER, we are discussing REDUCING RISKS! Diabetes can potentially bring on a myriad of complications and risks so part of patient education is educating over these risks and preventing them if possible.
African Americans | Diabetes Type 2 // In honor of BLACK HISTORY MONTH, I thought it would be fitting to focus on the African American diabetic for the month of February! My desire is to curate content that can assist you in managing your African American Diabetics better. As I was prepping for this, I thought it would be great to do this for other demographics and cultural groups throughout the year, so stay tuned for that!!!
